Comments from the LEEDS PREVIEW of FIVE BEATS in a BAR: Brilliant! ...A truly original and refreshing blend of poetry and jazz... Real fun and engaging..Most distracting in a very pleasant way...Looked as hot as it sounded...Cool!..I thought you were all brilliant and enjoyed the performance - and I don't like jazz.!..Beautiful, from poetry and song and back you never missed a beat...Terrific cabaret, keep bopping!...Unpredictable and highly entertaining...A hotbed of uniquely cool entertainment...A unique concept beautifully executed...Very enjoyable-a lovely combination of music and words..Extravagant!.Like a good club sandwich with Jonathan and Louise as delicious filling between the crispy Jane, Maggie and Richard layers!...A welcome revisit in words and music to an often overlooked era... Quite different from anything I have heard before.Thank you...A great mix of music and thought-provoking poetry...A truly rhythmical, joyous and fun performance!...Funny, entertaining and enjoyable...Very atmospheric, excellent!...COOOOL!...Brillianter than ever!!..Most amusing and a brilliant performance!...A very enjoyable experience - loved the audience participation!... An interesting confection...Real fun and engaging!... Hip to the beat!.. Original presentation, great fun,but perhaps too much scatting?...Entertaining and polished.Should go down a storm at the Fringe!...I had no idea what to expect, but when I looked at the programme I knew I was in for an evening of having the boundaries of my aesthetic inexperience pushed back and space given for a different understanding. I was right! All that remains is to digest it,thank you.A refreshing evening.
If I'm honest fairly average.Perhaps I missed the point but there was too much singing although some of the poetry in between was good! (LG: Well, you can't please everybody all the time.)

"A high-wire act that takes more chances than anything I've heard outside the strictly avant-garde." Jazzwise - June 2009
LOUISE GIBBS is a singer, jazz improviser and composer. It has been said of her bebop-inspired style: "She can turn a hackneyed jazz standard into a newly-imagined composition ... and takes musical risks ... as expressive as any horn player whether the tune's by Kenny Wheeler or Rodgers & Hart"
